Documentary based on Pope Francis's award-winning book to hit Netflix next year

A NEW Netflix series based on the award-winning book by Pope Francis is to hit Netflix next year.

The popular streaming service confirmed the news yesterday, with Variety reporting the series will span over four episodes.

Based on 'Sharing the Wisdom of Time', an award-winning book by the Pope first published in 2018, the series will include an exclusive interview with Francis himself.

Both the book and upcoming series looks at the elderly in communities around the world, with people over the age of 70 sharing their experiences and wisdom with those under the age of 30.

According to Variety, the subjects of the documentary will be from diverse ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions and countries, and will explore themes that all human beings have in common regardless of their circumstances: love, struggle, work and dreams.

'Sharing the Wisdom of Time' won multiple awards following its release in 2018, including from the Independent Press Awards, Catholic Press Association Book Awards and Best Book Awards.

The new four-part series, directed by Simon Ercolani, will debut globally on Netflix in 2021, but a specific date has yet to be confirmed.

A documentary on Pope Francis's life made headlines earlier this year when the leader of the Catholic Church appeared to voice his support for same-sex civil unions-- however the Vatican later said his words were taken out of context.
