GAA to allow Liam Miller charity match be held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh

The GAA has finally relented in letting the Cork stadium be used for the charity event.

The Liam Miller Tribute Match, an event to raise money for the late footballer's family, was originally to take place on September 25 at Turners Cross in Cork, which holds just 7,500 – one-sixth of Páirc Úi Chaoimh’s 45,000 capacity.

A statement from the GAA today confirmed that the match could go ahead in Miller's native Cork's Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The GAA said:"The GAA and the Organising Committee of the Liam Miller Tribute Match can confirm that following meetings of the GAA’s Management Committee and Central Council, the event will take place at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday September 25th.

In agreement with the Committee the day will also include a GAA event in advance of the Tribute Match. The details will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Further information relating to arrangements and ticketing for the game - including those purchased already for Turner’s Cross - will be finalised at a meeting of the Committee and Cork GAA on Monday and made public shortly afterwards.

The GAA would like to wish the family of Liam Miller and the organisers every success in their efforts.

The Committee of the Liam Miller Tribute Match would like to thank the GAA for their support with this event."

The game is set to feature a host of football stars from Miller’s Manchester United, Celtic and Ireland days including Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.

Roy Keane will manage one side and play in the game, while Ireland manager Martin O’Neill will coach the other.
