Garda injured after accidentally shooting himself in the foot

A STORY is emerging this afternoon of an investigation being launched following the shooting of a Garda.

By himself.

In the foot.

Accidentally.

While you could be forgiven for thinking this was intended to be a tongue-in-cheek article by popular Irish satirical website Waterford Whispers News, it is being reported that The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is investigating the incident.

According to The Independent, the officer shot himself in the foot while in sitting in a Garda vehicle. The gun discharged and the officer was hit with a single bullet to his foot.

The accidental shooting occurred in Limerick, Ireland, but the locality is not yet known.

The Limerick Gardaí have already been in the spotlight this week with the story of their newest officer, two-year-old Noah Quish, who was officially recruited into the force and given a Garda uniform earlier this week. More details of the heartwarming gesture can be found here.

An incident such as this rarely occurs due to An Garda Síochána's policy to only use firearms in dire circumstances.

It is likely the injured officer was taken to University Hospital, Limerick to be treated for his injuries.

This article will be updated as more details of the investigation emerge.
