Irish teenager wins 100m gold at European Youth Olympic Festival

Teenager Ciara Neville has won a gold medal for Ireland in the prestigious 100m sprint event at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The 15-year-old crossed the line in 12.01 seconds ahead of Poland’s Klaudia Adamek (12.16) and Norway’s Ingvild Meinseth (12.17) on Tuesday.

The Emerald AC athlete, who is from Limerick, took to Twitter to reveal she slept with her medal under her pillow.

The games have so far proved a big success for Ireland’s young stars of the future, with Kevin McGrath (1500m), Daniel Ryan (long jump), Molly Scott (100m hurdles), Sommer Lecky (high jump), Niamh Malone (400m hurdles) and Ryan Carthy Walsh (high jump) each making the final of their respective events.
