Lyra pays tribute to Dolores O’Riordan with beautiful cover of ‘Zombie’ on Late Late Show

IRISH TV viewers have treated to a spellbinding tribute to Dolores O’Riordan from Irish singer Lyra on the third anniversary of the Cranberries singer’s death.

O’Riordan passed away in a tragic accident at a London hotel on January 15, 2018.

Her sudden death sent shockwaves through the world of music and her loss and legacy is still keenly felt today in Ireland and across much of the world.

Eager to mark the date, RTE’s The Late Late Show paid tribute with a special performance from Cork singer Lyra, who sang The Cranberries’ signature hit Zombie.

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy introduced the performance described O’Riordan as ‘one of the greatest lyrical and musical talents Ireland ever produced.”

“She will never be forgotten and her music lives on,” he added.

Dressed in a sombre black dress and silver headpiece, Lyra delivered a beautiful rendition of the song that ranks among the band’s most famous.

It was a perfectly pitched tribute to a musician who meant so much to so many people.

Twitter was flooded with praise for Lyra’s performance.

Ally tweeted: "Shivers listening to @thisislyra on #latelate such an emotional show this evening! Noelle was excellent.

Alex concurred: "Such a beautiful tribute to the late Dolores O'Riordan by Lyra."

Carroll, meanwhile, gushed: "This was a truly gorgeous tribute to Dolores O Riordan - Lyra performed ‘Zombie’. A deserving tribute."

Daithi added: "A beautiful tribute by Lyra to to Dolores O'Riordan on the 3rd anniversary of Dolores passing."

Hours earlier, the surviving members of The Cranberries had taken to social media to issue a statement marking the anniversary.

“It’s hard to believe that three years have gone by since Dolores passed on,” it said.

“She is always in our thoughts and our hearts. So many years of fond memories.

“Wherever you are D, we hope you’re bringing joy with your unique voice.

“Ferg, Mike and Noel.”
