Man and woman arrested after man mowed down by car and attacked in broad daylight

GARDAÍ IN Limerick have arrested a man and a woman following a serious attack on a man in the city last weekend.

On Wednesday, March 18 at approximately 1.30pm, a man was hospitalised after allegedly being struck by a car in Munchins Street in the city centre and subsequently beaten with an implement.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment for his injuries and has since been discharged.

Detective and uniform Gardaí carried out an investigation and executed two search warrants at houses in Limerick city yesterday morning, Tuesday March 24, where they arrested a man and a woman, both aged in their 30's, in connection with the incident.

Two vehicles have also been seized as part of the investigation.

The couple were arrested under suspicion of violent disorder and are being detained in Henry Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí have confirmed that the woman has since been released and the man remains in Garda custody.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses of the incident to come forward, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage of the attack.
