Urgent appeal set up to help Irish mother of two who had a stroke while on holiday

Carol McDonnell was on holiday in Italy before she had a stroke.

The mother of two's circumstances have left her "confused" and "unable to speak".

Ms McDonnell was brought to hospital following her condition and from receiving medical attention, multiple blood clots were discovered in her body.

As Ms McDonnell's condition is so serious, she will have to be brought back to Ireland in an ambulance by land for treatment.

The Irish woman didn't take out insurance when she booked her flights, thinking it would cover the entire trip but according to her family, this does not appear to be the case.

Ms McDonnell's sons Danny and Patrick along with Danny's wife Ruth have set up a GoFundMe to fund medical bills and to cover the cost of Carol's journey home to Ireland to receive treatment.

Ms McDonnell's daughter in law Ruth appealed for the masses to share the appeal: "...As some of you will already know Dannys mam has had a stroke in Italy.

"The Italian hospital have found several smaller clots and this means she will have to travel over land in an ambulance to get home. We would appreciate any donation you can give," she added.
