In Pictures... Celebrities attend unveiling of Spike Milligan statue

MICHAEL Parkinson, Maureen Lipman and Terry Gillam were among the celebrities in attendance at the unveiling of the new statue which pays homage to influential Irish comedian Spike Milligan.

A bevy of British stage and screen stars came out to enjoy the event, held on Thursday, September 4, alongside Milligan’s friends and family, including the comedy legend’s daughter Síle Milligan.

The statue, a life-size bronze by the artist John Somerville, shows Milligan sitting on a bench and turning to speak to whomever might be next to him.

It has been erected in the gardens of Stephens House in Finchley, the north London suburb where Milligan lived for 19 years.
