Man dies following collision

A man has died following a collision in Co. Donegal.

An elderly man has has passed away following a collision in Co. Monaghan.

The man, believed to be in his 70s was driving in the area of Lake View in Castleblayney before his car collided with a wall.

It is believed the man was driving in a rural area and was killed upon impact with the wall.

The body of the deceased was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Co. Louth, pending a post-mortem examination of the remains.

Speaking to The Irish Mirror, a spokesman for the Gardaí made a statement: "It is understood the car left the road and struck a wall.

"The driver and sole occupant of the car, a male in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"Garda forensic collision investigators are examining the crash site and local diversions are in place. The local Coroner has been notified.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Castleblayney Garda Station 042- 974 7902."
