Relief as young sisters, 13 and 14, missing from Carlow found safe and well

THERE HAS been good news in the search for two missing children as they have been located safe and well.

Young teenagers Helen and Melissa McDonnell, sisters aged 14 and 13 respectively, had been missing for several days after vanishing from County Carlow on Monday evening, 19 July.

Neither had been seen since their disappearance, however as the days went by it was suspected the sisters could be in the Athlone or Longford areas, with Gardaí narrowing the search to these spots.

A missing person's appeal was also launched in order to seek help from the public, which included a physical description of Helen and Melissa as well as the clothes they were wearing on the day they disappeared.

A photograph of the sisters was also released by Gardaí as part of the investigation, which can be seen below.
