HBO pulls the plug on Chris O'Dowd TV series

US network HBO has cancelled the Chris O'Dowd-starring Family Tree.

Co-written and co-created by Christopher Guest (Best in ShowThis Is Spinal Tap) and Jim Piddock (Too Much Sun), Family Tree followed the journey of Tom Chadwick (O'Dowd).

After losing his job and splitting up with his girlfriend, Tom began researching his family history, inheriting a mysterious box from a great aunt, which revealed hidden family characters.

The series aired on the BBC last year and was not a ratings hit, receiving a slew of negative reviews.

O'Dowd is set to make his Broadway debut in Of Mice and Men in the spring, and co-stars in the Brendan Gleeson-starring Calvary, which opens in Irish cinemas on April 11.
