AN ILLUSTRATION has been issued by Gardaí this morning in the hope of identifying skeletal remains found on a construction site in Cork.
The remains were discovered at a construction site on the Midleton to Youghal Greenway on January 5, 2021.
Forensic examinations have since been undertaken which suggest they are those of a woman aged in her 70s who is thought to have died sometime between 1985 and 1987.
The findings further suggest she was between 5ft and 5ft 2 in height, was “large framed” and suffered from arthritis.
She also wore dentures and clothing including a slip, tights and a nightdress as well as a pair of size 2 brown leather shoes were found near the remains.
“The dentures are believed to have been made in around the 1960s,” the police force states.

“They have a porous acrylic base, the teeth are porcelain posteriors with acrylic anterior and would most likely have been privately made,” they added.
Using the information gained through these examinations, Dr. Michelle Vital, a forensic specialist in facial reconstruction from Penn West University, has created an illustration of what the women may have looked like to assist the Garda investigation.
“Investigating Gardaí are hopeful that based on the entirety of all this information, and the facial reconstruction image, that a person or persons will be able to identify this lady,” the police force states.
“DNA samples have been compared against the National DNA Database, and a positive match has not been obtained at this time,” they added.
“An Garda Síochána is also liaising with Interpol,” they confirmed.
Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to come forward.
“Any information received by the investigation team will be treated with the strictest of confidence,” the police force confirmed.
“Gardaí are determined to identify this person and treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve.”
They added: “If you have any information that could help in the possible identification of this lady, no matter how insignificant you may think it might be, please contact the Garda investigation team, let them decide on the importance of your information.
“The Garda investigation team can be contacted at the incident room at Cobh Garda Station 021 4908530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
