Dead Rabbit, New York bar owned by Irishmen, is named among world’s best

THE DEAD RABBIT the New York bar owned by Irishmen Jack McGarry and Sean Muldoon, has once again been named among the world’s best bars.

The venue ranked 16th on the World’s 50 Best Bars list, which is compiled by William Reed Business Media.

Dandelyon in London topped the list, which was revealed at an awards ceremony in the English capital this week.

The Dead Rabbit topped the list two years ago and despite a difficult 2018 it continues to impress voters.

On July 1 a fire caused considerable damage to the building, forcing it to temporarily close its doors.

However it reopened less than three weeks later and despite hot food being off the menu for now, it is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment.

'Fast becoming a classic'

This year’s World’s 50 Best Bars list says the Dead Rabbit ‘is fast becoming a classic… an Irish bar and the best of its genre’.

“The Dead Rabbit is nothing if not popular,” the entry reads.

“Having experienced a fire in the summer of 2018, The Dead Rabbit swiftly bounced back.

“The coasters at the bar now read ‘Born in a hurricane, forged in a fire’ and will take their place in the Dead Rabbit 2.0 extension next door, which supplies the only thing this bar was missing – capacity for the crowds.”

That won’t be a problem much longer with the bar expected to return to full service over the coming months.

The kitchen is due to reopen in the next four weeks while the extended taproom will reopen before the end of November, featuring solid walnut snugs.

The extended parlour will be open in the New Year.
