Man and woman killed in late-night car crash in Dublin

A MAN and woman have been killed in a car crash in the Dublin area overnight.

While some details are still unclear, it is believed the incident ocurred at approximately 1.30am this morning, December 17 2019.

According to The Independent, the crash took place when the man and woman were travelling near the junction of Ballyroan Road and Old Bridge Road near the Templeogue Bridge in Rathfarnham, Dublin.

Their car, an 05D Fiat Stilo, hit a lamp post on Butterfield Avenue, with The Independent reporting that from viewing the scene it appears the car could have left the road and hit the lamp post sideways, as the passenger side of the car appeared to have sustained most of the damage.

Glass and debris from the car were spread across the road this morning, with some car parts discovered in neighbouring gardens and Garda collision investigators marking evidence at the scene.

The ages of the occupants are so far unknown, and it is also unknown whether the two deceased were the only occupants of the car.

Both were taken to Tallaght University Hospital this morning, with a post mortem due to take place later today.

Gardaí are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or who may have dash cam footage of the accident, to come forward by contacting Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Gardda Station.
