Teenager arrested following shooting incident in Tipperary

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in County Tipperary which occured last night.

Gardaí in Clonmel have confirmed that one man has been arrested and a number of firearms seized following an investigation into a report of gunshots in the Mullinahone area of Tipperary, a small village with an estimated population of just 372.

According to Gardaí, a number of shots were fired outside a house in the area at approximately 10.30pm last night, Tuesday 2 March.

A number of people were in the house at the time of the shooting but nobody is believed to have sustained injuries.

Gardaí were called to the scene where they recovered a number of spent casings from a discharged firearm.

Local Gardaí, along with members of the Armed Suport Units (ASU) then conducted a follow-up operation which resulted in the arrest of a man in his late teens, as well as the seizure of a number of licenced firearms and ammunition.

The youth, whose exact age has not been disclosed, was arrested and is being detained at Clonmel Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act of 1939.

Gardaí have not appealed for witnesses or further information from the public at this time.
