Teenager fighting for his life after freak railing accident

A TEENAGER is fighting for his life after getting his head and neck trapped in railings near his home in Kinsale, Co.Cork.

14-year-old Leon Connon was with friends on Saturday night when he began feeling unwell.

It is believed the teenager went to rest on the fence but then collapsed and became trapped between the 1.3m curved railing at the edge of a housing estate.

Struggling to breathe, his friends tried to free him but after their attempts failed they raised the alarm.

Kinsale RLNI crewman Killian Murphy helped perform CPR on the boy for almost an hour before they finally managed to restore a pulse. “It was very faint but we finally got a pulse. We are all just hoping now that he pulls through,” he said.

The teenager was rushed to hospital where he is now in a ‘critical but stable’ condition.

Gardaí are said to be treating the matter as a tragic accident.
