A MAN arrested in Co. Antrim in connection with the 1985 murder of a Seychellois politician has been released under investigation.
The 77-year-old man was arrested on Thursday at an address in Antrim on suspicion of conspiracy to murder in relation to the death of Gérard Hoarau.
The arrest was carried out by officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, with support from the PSNI.
Mr Hoarau was living in exile in Edgware, London due to his opposition to Seychelles' then one-party state when he was gunned down on November 29, 1985.
The 35-year-old was shot a number of times with a Sterling sub-machine gun while he was on the doorstep of his home on Greencourt Avenue.
Detectives previously arrested a number of individuals in connection with the investigation but no-one was charged with murder.
Three people were convicted in 1986 for perverting the course of justice in relation to the investigation.
A review of the investigation was initiated in 2016 from which fresh lines of enquiry were established, leading to the latest arrest.
The man, who was released on Friday, has not been previously arrested as part of this investigation.
Anyone with information in relation to the murder of Mr Hoarau should contact the investigation team at [email protected] or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
