The Ireland Men’s Sevens team won a silver medal in France on Sunday

THE IRISH Sevens men's team managed to secure a silver medal in Toulouse after losing 29-17 to eventual winners Fiji.

This was Ireland's second attempt at reaching a final after New Zealand overcame Aiden McNulty's side at the Singapore Sevens in April.

Ireland beat Fiji at the time but were unable to best them in France this time around.

Tries from Jordan Conroy and a brace from Terry Kennedy weren't enough to secure gold.

Ireland did however beat South Africa and Argentina on the way to the final.

Ireland will now finish the series by travelling to the London Sevens at the Twickenham Stadium next weekend.

Ireland's last visit to England ended with a bronze medal in 2018.

The women's team came fourth despite losing twice in France. They missed out on a medal in a 26-10 defeat to Fiji.

Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe scored 36 tries this season and helped Ireland to their highest ever finish in the rankings (4th), which landed her a spot in the Sevens Dream team.

Before that, Ireland had lost the cup semi-final 40-7 to Australia, but their results were still good enough for fourth overall, four places higher than their previous best finish, eighth in in 2018/19.
