Paul Galvin: 'We could do with a re-definition of what 'being Irish' actually means'

With St Patrick’s Day around the corner, we ask ex-Kerry footballer Paul Galvin what being Irish means to him...

“I’m not sure what being Irish means, other than to just be myself. On Patrick’s Day I’ll just be myself, the same as I am every other day.

"I won’t go to watch a parade and I won’t dress up in any silly costumes but I may watch the parades on television, particularly those from around the world.

"St Patrick’s Day is in danger of caricaturing Ireland and Irish people in a way that is not very flattering at times and I think we could do with a definition or perhaps a re-definition of what ‘being Irish’ actually means.”
