Brendan Gleeson secures second Emmy nomination

IRISH ACTOR Brendan Gleeson has been nominated in the Outstanding Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for the 2022 Emmy Awards.

He is nominated for his role as Scott in State of the Union, which follows the character and his wife (played by Patricia Clarkson) who are in need of marriage counselling.

Gleeson is up against Anthony A. Anderson as Sean Williams-Grey in Anacostia, Bill Burr as Rick in Immoral Compass, Tim Robinson as Various Characters in I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, and Ikechukwu Ufomadu as Ikechukwu Ufomadu in Words With Ike (Cake).

Clarkson has also been nominated in the Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series category.

The show is different in that it has ten ten-minute episodes.

Its first season, which starred Chris O'Dowd, picked up three Emmy wins.

This is Gleeson’s second Emmy nomination. In 2009, he was nominated - and won - in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries Or Movie for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Into the Storm."

Elsewhere, HBO's Succession picked up the most Emmy nominations this year with 25, followed by AppleTV+'s Ted Lasso and The White Lotus with 20 each.

Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy in Succession has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Cox hails from Dundee, Scotland, but has spoken in the past about how his great-grandfather came from Derry, while his great-grandmother came from Donegal.

There was further good news for HBO as Hacks and Hulu's Only Murders In The Building received 17 nominations each, while Euphoria came in with 16, including a Lead Actress nod for Zendaya.
