Shaun Evans to return as Morse for third ITV series of Endeavour

FANS of Endeavour, starring second generation Irish actor Shaun Evans, are in for a taste of the swinging sixties, ITV has revealed as it announced plans to commission a third series.

Following the success of series two earlier this year, a third is now in the pipeline and will again be written by Inspector Morse writer Russell Lewis.

Evans, whose family are from Tyrone and Dublin, will also return to film the new series in Oxford - once again donning the shabby raincoat and inhabiting the down-at-heel digs of young Detective Constable E. Morse.

“I'm really excited to be revisiting the '60's as young Morse,” he said. “The audience reaction to Endeavour has been fantastic and this series promises to be the best we've made so far. It'll be well worth the wait.”

The new series of Endeavour will be set in 1967, picking up from the dramatic second series finale that saw Morse placed in police custody, framed for a murder he didn’t commit, and DI Fred Thursday's life hanging in the balance after being shot in the chest.

The second series of Endeavour was one of ITV’s best performing returning drama series so far this year.

The first Morse story was published in 1975 written by novelist Colin Dexter, who continues his association with the drama acting as a production consultant on Endeavour.
