Listowel Writers’ Week 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus

THE annual Listowel Writers’ Week festival has been cancelled for 2020 it was announced this week.

Held in Co. Kerry, the yearly event was due to take place in May, where it had planned on celebrating its 50th anniversary year.

However, amid the ongoing threat of the coronavirus in Ireland and across the world, the decision was taken to cancel the popular event.

In a statement, organisers explained: “We, at Listowel Writers’ Week, deeply regret that our 2020 Festival (27th-31stMay) and The National Children’s Literary Festival are cancelled due to the ongoing Coronavirus/Covid-19 Pandemic.”

They added: “We are saddened to have to cancel our annual literary gathering of Listowel Writers’ Week until 2021. However, the health and safety of everyone and full compliance with Government guidelines must take priority over all else. We will be working hard during this time of uncertainty and isolation, continuing to engender and maintain our spirit of literary friendship.”

Refunds on all tickets already purchased for the 2020 festival are now available, organisers have confirmed.

“Alternatively, if you wish, we will offer you a credit note in lieu of your ticket/tickets which may be redeemed for Listowel Writers’ Week 2021,” they added.

Due to the Listowel Writers’ Week Festival 2020 no longer going ahead we have had to take the unfortunate decision to cancel the Irish Post Listowel Writers’ Week Competition 2020.

We are grateful to everyone who submitted entries for this competition over the past few months and will keep every one of them on file to be entered into our 2021 competition.

There is no limit on entries per person, so if you have applied this year and wish to also submit another entry for 2021 please do so.

We will publish news and guidelines regarding of our 2021 competition later this year.
