THIS is the explosive moment an Irish Army bomb squad made safe a hand grenade found in Ballsbridge in Dublin.
The Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Team was called out to the area after the incendiary device was discovered on Monday morning.
The Mills 36 fragmentation grenade, a model which was used throughout the Irish War of Independence and World War One, was found by workers carrying out maintenance work on a bridge.
The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on the scene shortly after 11am.
The area was cordoned off and a controlled explosion was carried out around midday.
The scene was declared safe at 12:45pm.
Gardai described the hand grenade as a “historic munition” and warned the Irish public of the dangers of undiscovered explosives.
"Historic munitions from conflicts in the early 20th century can be encountered from time to time,” a garda spokesman said.
"Should members of the public find such munitions they are advised to maintain a safe distance, inform An Garda Síochána, who in turn will request Defence Forces assistance.”
