Ireland ranked in top 10 places to live worldwide

IRELAND is one of the top 10 places to live worldwide, according to a United Nations report.

The Emerald Isle moved up two positions in this year’s Human Development Index (HDI), which measures basic human developments across 188 countries, to joint sixth place with Germany.

The countries were assessed by the following categories, long and healthy lifestyle, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.

Topping the list for a 12th year in a row is Norway, followed by Australia and Switzerland in second and third place, making them the best countries to live in for health, life expectancy, education and high incomes.

Norway boasts an average life expectancy of 81.6 years, whilst in Ireland the figure stands at 80.9 years.

The gross national income per capita in the Scandinavian country stands at $64,992, much greater than Ireland’s $39,568.

Denmark and Netherlands ranked fourth and fifth overall in the HDI report, and whilst Britain placed 14th jointly with Sweden, it’s average life expectancy of 80.7 years is just behind that of Ireland.

The HDI report was released by the UN in its annual Human Development Report.
