Number of houses evacuated in Ireland with army bomb squad called in over ‘suspect device’

A NUMBER of houses have had to be evacuated after a ‘suspect device’ was thrown through the window of a house in southern Ireland on Friday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for information after the device was discovered inside a house at Galvone Road, Kennedy Park in Limerick shortly before 1am.

A number of properties in the local area were evacuated and a Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit was called in to remove the device.

A Garda spokesman said: “At 12.43am, Gardaí were called to Galvone Road, Kennedy Park, Limerick following the discovery of a suspect device which was thrown through the window of a house.”

“The area was evacuated and an Army EOD Unit attended the scene.

“The device was subsequently removed by the EOD unit for further examination.”

“The area has now been deemed safe and those evacuated have returned to their homes.”

The spokesman added: “A Garda Investigation has commenced at Roxboro Road Garda Station.

“We are asking for the public’s help and anyone who may have been in the Kennedy Park, Glasgow Park and Roxboro Road areas this morning, 22nd September, between 12.10am and 1am.”
