Police warn public of bogus charity worker targeting homes in Manchester

POLICE in Manchester are warning the public of a woman “with an Irish or eastern European accent” who is attempting to enter homes in the city by falsely posing as a charity worker.

On three separate incidents between Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6, a woman claiming to be working for a children’s charity, knocked on doors of homes in Coalshaw Green Road and Mora Avenue in Chadderton.

The woman asked the homeowners if she could use their bathroom, but each time she was turned away.

Nothing has been stolen, but police have warned that there is a risk of theft if she gains entry into any property.

The woman is described as white, in her 20s, of slim build, with blonde hair, wearing a brown coat and speaking with an Irish or eastern European accent.

Police Sergeant Paul Archer said: “Thankfully, each of the homeowners have been suspicious of the woman and have not let her in. Every time she has claimed she wanted to use the bathroom and has not had any identification to show.

“We believe, given the opportunity, if the woman is allowed into someone’s home, she will steal property. If you have seen this woman in the local area or believe she has knocked on your door, I would ask you to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
