Two more Aer Lingus strikes planned as talks collapse

TWO further one-day strikes next week at Aer Lingus are being threatened.

The announcement from IMPACT union, representing Aer Lingus cabin crew, comes after three days of talks last week between the union and Aer Lingus management.

The talks ended without agreement, with each side criticising the other for not being prepared to negotiate in the row over rostering.

The union has accused Aer Lingus of having a "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude to the ongoing dispute.

The airline management, for their part, accuses the union of not being prepared to negotiate.

Aer Lingus Director of Communications Declan Kearney said the airline had reached agreement with crew over rostering issues as requested, and so was unsure as to what cabin crew were demanding now.

He added that that the threatened action on June 16 and 18, could disrupt around 80,000 passengers as the peak holiday season starts.

Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar said the possibility of further industrial action “is a matter of grave concern”.
