David Clifford has been named 'The Sunday Games Player of the Year' after All-Ireland win

KERRY'S DAVID CLIFFORD has been named as the Sunday Games Player of the Year after his stellar display in the All-Ireland final against Galway on Sunday.

Man-of-the match Clifford scored 0-8 points to secure Kerry's first Sam Maguire title since 2014, and Kerry's 38th in its history.

The Kingdom overcame Galway at Croke Park, winning 0-20 to 0-16 in one of the best finals in years.

Speaking to the Sunday Game after, the Kerry starlet said: ""It’s very hard to put it into words. "I think it’s very obvious it’s something I’ve dreamt of all my life.

"I was always confident we would get over the line even though last year it didn’t work out for us.

"It was unbelievable to hear the crowd getting behind us in the second-half. It was unbelievable."

Adding on what comes next, Clifford said: “There definitely a realisation that this isn’t the end of us by any means. It’s really time to go now. We are just getting started.

Clifford is expected to win 'Footballer of the year'.

Clifford is one of seven Kerry players to have made the Sunday Games team selection. The other players included are Shane Ryan, Jason Foley, Tadhg Morley, Gavin White, Paudie Clifford, and Sean O'Shea.

Dublin's Ciarán Kilkenny and James McCarthy were also included. Armagh's star man Rian O'Neil made the cut, as did Galway's Shane Walsh, Cillian McDaid, Liam Silke, and Damien Comer.

Chrissy McKaigue from Derry also made the selection.
