COMEDIAN Jimmy Carr was presented with a Certificate of Irish Heritage ahead of a performance in Limerick last weekend.
The second-generation funnyman is the son of parents who both hail from Limerick City
Carr, whose parents are from Limerick City, was presented with the certificate by the Mayor of Limerick, Councillor Kathleen Leddin, on behalf of Limerick City and County Council.
The 8 Out of 10 Cats presenter said he was "honoured and delighted" to receive the certificate, which is signed by the Taoiseach and recognises the contribution made by members of the Diaspora worldwide.
Councillor Leddin said: "Jimmy is very proud of his parental connections with Limerick and certainly has an emotional attachment to the city and Ireland. He was very honoured to receive this certificate, which I think is a wonderful initiative to recognise and celebrate Ireland's Diaspora.
"We are delighted that Jimmy has confirmed he is planning a return to Limerick in 2014 when the city becomes Ireland’s first National City of Culture."
Carr follows in the footsteps of a number of other well-known faces who have received certificates confirming their Irish ancestry, including Hollywood actor Tom Cruise who received a certificate last April.
