THE New York Times headline read as follows: Burnham Set to Become Britain’s First Openly Roman Catholic Prime Minister.
I’m fairly sure that odd wording isn’t suggesting that previous prime ministers have been Catholics in the closet, but it is still quite extraordinary that the UK first gets a Catholic prime minister in 2026.
Although in 2013 an Act was passed in Parliament that meant a royal could marry a Catholic and still ascend to the throne.
Of course, the monarch themselves cannot be a Catholic. God forbid....
