'Avoid the pub!' - 106-year old woman reveals her secrets to a long life

A 106-YEAR-OLD woman has revealed the secret behind her long life, and it is bad news for the more sociable among us.

Madeline Dye was born in Heely, south Sheffield way back in 1912. She's lived there ever since, working as a bookbinder close to her late sister Auralie and her family.

She recently celebrated her 106th birthday with relatives at a care home in the area.

And the secret behind her old age? Staying single and not going to the pub.

Incredibly, Madeline has never been on a date in her 106 years on this planet and has visited a pub just once - to celebrate her 90th birthday a few years back.

She believes that this approach is part of the reason she has lived so long, as she's avoided some of the "stresses" attached to being in a relationship or under the influence of alcohol

Whatever the truth might be, it seems to be working for Madeline, who is able to walk freely without a stick and happily mixes with others in the home.

"Whenever anyone asks her about her past romances or if she has a husband, she says 'I've never had one, that's why I'm this age'," Madeline's 80-year-old niece Diana Heaton told The Mirror.

"She says she has not had the stresses of marriage, it's tongue-in-cheek more than anything."

It may also have something to do with the fact Madeline's job also required her to walk two miles up and down a steep hill anywhere up to four times a day during the working week.
