Jail for passenger who unleashed foul mouthed rant about Irish people at London train station

A TRAIN passenger who shocked commuters with a foul mouthed rant about Irish people at Euston railway station has been jailed for two weeks.

Gary Murphy, 47 of no fixed address, shouted ‘F*** you, F*** you, you foreign c****’ from the top of the escalators in the station on September 4 this year.

He also told a police officer: ‘F*** you, you f****** Irish c***, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.

Prosecutor Marie Olo said: ‘The defendant was brought to Euston station by a male and a security guard, who had witnessed him shouting at the top of the escalators, ‘F*** you. F*** you, you foreign c****.’

‘He was told that his behaviour was not acceptable to which he replied: ‘I don’t care.’

Murphy shouted for a ‘number of minutes’ and called one of the witnesses a f****** c***, before later telling a police officer: ‘F*** you, you f****** Irish c***.’

He was arrested and taken into custody, and he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court yesterday via video-link.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of racially aggravated harassment and a separate public order offence of using threatening or abusive words.

Murphy has been trying to stop drinking but had ‘fallen off the wagon’ on the day of the incident.

He had been to visit the graves of his mother and father earlier in the day, before going to see his ex-wife in a bid to see his child.

Yet when she refused him access, he went to an off-licence and became ‘very drunk’, it was claimed.

Murphy had no previous convictions until 2012, but his period of offending began after his wife left him.

His most recent conviction came in August for criminal damage and shoplifting, and he has received multiple convictions for criminal damage this year.

Murphy, who told the court that he had been living in a tent, has an African girlfriend and has Irish blood in him, the court heard.

District Judge Nermine Abdel-Sayed said: ‘Unfortunately, your prolific and antecedent history means I have no option but to impose a custodial sentence.’

‘Taking into account your guilty plea that you have entered today, I will sentence you to two weeks imprisonment.’

Murphy, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and using threatening or abusive words, and was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment.
