Joe Biden tests negative for Covid-19

JOE BIDEN has received a negative test result for Covid-19.

The Democratic Presidential candidate was tested for the virus as a precaution, after US President Donald Trump confirmed he had contracted the virus early this morning.

The pair had faced off earlier this week at the first Presidential debate, which led to fears the former Vice President could have been considered a close contact of President Trump.

First Lady Melania Trump has also tested positive, and the pair are currently self-isolating in the White House; both are said to be experiencing mild symptoms.

According to Dr Kevin O'Connor, Joe Biden's primary care physician, both Mr Biden and his wife, Dr Jill Biden, have tested negative for the respiratory disease.

In a statement released in the past hour, Dr Kevin O'Connor wrote:

"Vice President Joe Bidn and Dr Jill Biden underwent PCR testing for COVID-19 today and COVID-19 was not detected.

"I am reporting this out in my capacity as both Vice President Biden and Dr Biden's primary care physician."

Mr Biden also confirmed the news in a Tweet, writing:

"I’m happy to report that Jill and I have tested negative for COVID. Thank you to everyone for your messages of concern.

"I hope this serves as a reminder: wear a mask, keep social distance, and wash your hands."

Democratic nominee Biden sent his best wishes to Donald and Melania Trump earlier today, writing on Twitter:

"Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery.

“We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family."
