Jack O’Connor set to stay with Kerry

Kerry's senior football manager, Jack O'Connor, is set to remain with Kerry for an additional two years, extending his tenure until 2025. This decision was reached at the county board meeting held last night, marking the continuation of O'Connor's leadership following the conclusion of his initial two-year term.

After concluding his playing career, the Kerry native initially assumed the role of Kerry football manager in 2003. His first term yielded All-Ireland victories in 2004 and 2006 before he temporarily stepped away from the county in 2006. O'Connor returned in 2008 and secured another All-Ireland win in 2009. He later concluded his second tenure with Kerry in 2012.

In a remarkable turn of events, the 62-year-old made a third return in 2021, resulting in yet another All-Ireland triumph in 2022. However, this year, Kerry's defending All-Ireland champions were defeated by Dublin in the final, with Dublin claiming victory with a scoreline of 1-15-1-13 in July.

While the specific composition of O'Connor's backroom team for the upcoming two years has not been officially confirmed, it is widely expected that key members will remain in their positions. This includes the anticipation that Micheál Quirke and Diarmuid Murphy will continue as selectors. Additionally, Paddy Tally is likely to continue his role as coach, providing valuable guidance and training to the players.

During the same county board meeting, the senior hurling management was also addressed, granting approval for former Waterford star Stephen Molumphy to continue as the senior hurling manager for a third consecutive year.
