BRENDAN O’Carroll’s popular TV character Agnes Brown hit the big screen last night at the world premiere of Mrs Brown's Boys: D'Movie in Dublin.

The stars of the film attended the rain-soaked event at The Savoy Cinema on O'Connell Street, where many fans waited to catch a glimpse of the man behind the famous on-screen Irish mammy.

Soccer star Shay Given, actress Amanda Woods and broadcaster Joe Duffy were amongst the familiar faces that walked the pink carpet to celebrate the upcoming release of the movie.

O’Carroll was also joined at the event by his wife Jenny Gibney and the couple posed for photos and signed autographs for fans.

He also revealed how proud he was to stage the premiere in his home town.

"If it was a snow storm here I wouldn't care," he said.

"It just means an awful lot to me. It's my home town, it's a movie about my home town. I'm very proud of being a Dubliner, I'm very proud of Dublin.

"We've had a rough time of it of late and it gives me an opportunity to give a little bit back because I owe Dublin a lot."

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie hits the big screen in the UK on Friday 27 June.
