Adventurer Jason Black becomes third Irishman ever to reach summit of most dangerous mountain in world

AN Irish mountain climber has reached the summit of the second highest mountain in the world.

Jason Black from Letterkenny, Co. Donegal reached the peak of the K2 mountain, on the border of China and Pakistan, at around 3am UK time on Sunday.

The second highest mountain in the world behind Mount Everest, K2 is known as the most dangerous climb with less than 350 people ever reaching its summit.

Jason is only the third Irish person ever to reach the summit of ‘the Savage Mountain’, after Limerick man Ger McDonnell scaled the 8.6km peak ten years ago.

Tragically, McDonell died with ten other climbers on descent.

Just 24 hours before Jason, Noel Hanna from Co Down became the first person from Northern Ireland to scale the mountain.

Jason has dedicated his climb on K2 to his family- his four children, saying ‘never stop believing and never stop reaching for the sky.’

He thanked his father Billy and his sisters for making him the man he is today. Most importantly, Jason , fighting back emotional tears gave a message to his incredible wife Sharon, ‘To the most incredible wife in the world, Sharon, who has been with me all the way, thank you’.

He asked all of his followers at home and around the world following his exhibition to keep him in his thoughts and prayers as he makes his descent down the mountain.
