Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

BORIS JOHNSON has tested positive for coronavirus.

The UK prime minister has presented mild symptoms, according to the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg.

He will will self-isolate in Downing Street, and will remain in charge of the government’s handling of the crisis.

In a video posted on Twitter, Mr Johnson has since confirmed he developed the symptoms over the last 24 hours.

The UK Prime Minister described his symptoms as “a temperature and persistent cough” which have lasted over 24 hours.

He said that on the advice of the chief medical officer he took a test for coronavirus.

Mr Johnson confirmed that he subsequently tested positive.

He went on to say he would be self-isolating and working from home thanks to “the wizardry of modern technology”.

The UK Prime Minister finished his message by thanking the NHS and everybody working to keep the UK going through the pandemic.

The UK Prime Minister wrote alongside the video: "Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.

"I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus.

"Together we will beat this."

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: "After experiencing mild symptoms yesterday, the Prime Minister was tested for coronavirus on the personal advice of England’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty.

"The test was carried out in No 10 by NHS staff and the result of the test was positive.

"In keeping with the guidance, the Prime Minister is self-isolating in Downing Street.

"He is continuing to lead the government’s response to coronavirus."
