Footage of wild Sligo house party where guests flouted Covid restrictions sparks fury

FOOTAGE FROM inside a house party held in Sligo despite the government restrictions on large groups meeting together indoors has sparked fury online.

More than 100 people can be seen in attendance at the gathering, which reportedly took place in the Ballinode area this past Monday night.

Large crowds of young people, packed in close together, can be seen in the footage, with several revellers taking to tables in a state of semi-undress in the clip.

The footage was first uploaded to TikTok before finding its way onto Twitter.

A neighbour witnessed the party first-hand, calling into local radio station OceanFM to express fury at the unfolding scenes.

"About 9pm or 9:30pm I was walking and noticed there was a big congregation and taxis toing and froing,” they said.

"I was asking a few of them and they were all heading to a house party, I was flabbergasted, like with all the details Ronan Glynn is giving us how they are asking people to reduce gatherings.

"So, eventually they headed off but I was asking people the following day and someone said there were 118 people in there.”

The caller described the antics of those in attendance as “deplorable” in the current circumstances with rising case numbers and increased lockdown restrictions.

“I definitely think now if that's going on that we aren't on the same page,” they added.

"If there was maybe five or six or 10 young people, they've had a tough summer I'd understand. But over 100 people!

"I think because the pubs close at 10:30 or 11pm they say let’s head to a house party or whatever, but I don't know how you fit that many people in."

Gardaí have yet to comment on the footage.

It has yet to be established whether officers were dispatched to the scene to deal with the illegal gathering.
