FUNERAL details have been confirmed for the late actor Gary Lydon.
The Wexford man, who was born in London but raised in Ireland, died at his home in Shanballybawn in Co. Leitrim on Thursday, April 30.
He was “surrounded by his family” they said in a statement while confirming the 61-year-old’s funeral details.
Lydon, who was born Gary O’Brien, but used his mother’s maiden name for his acting career, grew up in Clonard, Co. Wexford.
He enjoyed a successful acting career which saw him feature in hit films such as The Banshees of Inisherin and The Guard and the RTÉ drama Love/Hate.
He was also a long-term star of the stage - having first rose to prominence in Billy Roche's Wexford Trilogy in the 1980s.
Lydon continued to work regularly with the playwright up until his passing.
“Gary was deeply loved,” his family said in a statement.
“He will be forever missed by his adoring sons Seanluke and James and their mother Kara, partner Paula and her daughter Aoife, brothers Anthony, Seamus and Ian, sisters-in-law Trudy and Liz, nephews Eoghan, Marcus, Finn, nieces Eve, Ciara, Sorcha, grandniece baby June, extended Doherty family, neighbours, friends and colleagues," they added.
Lydon is pre-deceased by his parents Jimmy and Judy O’Brien.
His funeral will take place at 12noon on May 7 at St. Michael’s Church, Cootehall in Co. Roscommon followed by burial in Kileenan Cemetery, Cootehall.
His family have asked that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to Wexford Arts Centre.
