Ireland to ease lockdown restrictions from MONDAY as government agrees to 'wide reopening' in May and June

FURTHER lockdown restrictions will be eased in Ireland from Monday as the country inches closer to normality.

Following a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, ministers gave the green light for a 'wide reopening' of society in May and June.

In what will undoubtedly be music to many people's ears, it's understood that Government are looking to ease restrictions quickly over the next two months.

On April 12, Ireland eased a number of restrictions for the first time in over four months, and more changes are expected to made on Monday.

These include the reopening of outdoors sport facilities such as tennis and golf clubs, and outdoor visitor attractions around the country such as zoos and heritage sites.

The maximum attendance at funerals will also be increased to 25.

Earlier this month, the 5km travel limit was dropped and changed to an inter-county limit and/or limit of 20km from your home. Two households are also now allowed to meet up outdoors, while two fully vaccinated individuals are allowed to meet up indoors without the need to wear face masks or to maintain social distance.

On Tuesday, Tanáiste Leo Varadkar said he believed the country was "on track" to have a summer similar to last year, but the reopening of seem sectors could be accelerated if case numbers around the country continue to drop.

However, it's understood that if there is resistance to some aspects of reopening from public health officials who prefer a more cautious timetable, certain aspects of the reopening plan could be changed or delayed.
