A NEW company based in Belfast is selling bottles of Irish rainwater on its website for £10.
Irish Rainwater launched yesterday and, as it says on its website, sells “beautiful little bottles of Irish Rainwater to wonderful people from all over the world”.
The idea is that the vials of rainwater will be a souvenir for tourists visiting Ireland - and a keepsake for those who want to ship the gift overseas.
The entrepreneur behind the business who wished to remain anonymous for now, told The Irish Post: "The Irish Rainwater Company started when myself and some friends were talking about novel business ideas and I thought Irish Rainwater could be a good one that would sell. I went home and bought the domain."
Once the website name was bought, he set about coming up with a plan for his business.
He ordered several 25ml glass vials, silver clovers to decorate the bottle and aluminium tins to hold the bottle in transit.
"Once they arrived, I used a bucket to collect rainwater in my back garden so I could make a sample product and get some great product images for the site," he revealed.
The product officially launched yesterday and has already been generating interest.
Retailing at £10, with an additional £5 for shipping, these bottles do not come cheap but the man behind the idea believes the gift is worth the price.
"The cost may sound expensive but international postage plus beautiful packaging all adds up," the owner told The Irish Post.
"The plan for the future is to see how this grows and take it from there, it's been so overwhelming seeing the response so far."
