Grealish absence in U21 squad casts doubt over Ireland future

JACK Grealish's future in an Ireland jersey remains uncertain after deciding to focus on his club career at Aston Villa for the time being.

The 19-year-old refused the opportunity to join Noel King's U21 side yesterday and has decided to opt out of the two friendly games against the USA and Russia in Marbella later this month.

King said: "I spoke to Jack's dad. He feels he wants to concentrate on his Aston Villa career.

"That's his choice and I accept it so I'll be focusing on working with the players we have with us. We have a lot of work to do."

It had been speculated that Grealish would be included in Martin O'Neill's senior squad for the upcoming games against Scotland and USA.

But his international future with Ireland remains in doubt after his absence from the U21 squad.

Meanwhile Hull City defender Brian Lenihan - who had been named in the senior squad for the games against Scotland and USA - has been included in the U21 side for the two upcoming fixtures.
