GAA clubs from Ireland and Britain to mark Tara Camogie's 30th anniversary in Greenford

TARA camogie club will celebrate their 30th anniversary with their annual 7s tournament in Greenford this Saturday.

In what will be the 10th instalment of the club's traditional event, clubs from Clare, Wexford and Tyrone will make the trip over to compete against the best Britain has to offer.

Last year, nine teams competed for various honours – four junior sides and five senior teams – including Portobello of Dublin and St Dominic's from Roscommon.

Britain was represented by Croydon, Fr Murphys and Tara alongside the Irish sides in the senior competition while Erin Go Bragh, Green Isles, Croydon and Tara Jrs competed in junior tournament.

Hosts Tara beat Portobello in the senior cup final and the trophy was lifted by captain Roisin O'Grady, who would go on to collect the club's seventh consecutive senior championship title last October after beating the newly formed amalgamated side Shire Gaels 3-10 to 1-4 in Ruislip.

In fact, since the senior championship had been renamed after the London Camogie Board changed to the Camogie Board Britain, O'Grady was the first captain to lift the All Britain Cup.

Tara, who were set up by Kilkenny sisters Carmel and Majella O’ Neill in 1986, went on to represent Britain in the All-Ireland Junior quarter-final, but were unfortunately beaten by eventual champions Johnstown Bridge in Kildare.

The hosts are expected to be fighting for honours once again this year at their 7s tournament, where refreshments and entertainment will be available in the Tir Chonill Gaels clubhouse after.
