Tipperary's John 'Bubbles' O’Dwyer has decided to retire from inter-county hurling

JOHN 'BUBBLES' O’DWYER has decided to retire from inter-county hurling today.

O'Dywer made his senior inter-county debut in 2013, during the league, scoring three points from centre-forward in a 0-26 to 1-11 defeat by Cork.

The Tipperary hurler won two All-Ireland's for his county in 2016 and 2019. The 31-year-old also won Munster titles in 2015 and 2016.

O’Dwyer earned Munster minor and U21 titles with the Premier County, along with an All-Ireland U21 crown in 2010 and would go on captain Tipp in that grade two years later before graduating through to the senior ranks.

His 84 senior appearances between league and championship over the last decade saw him tallying 14-227 for his county.

O'Dwyer's last appearance in the blue and gold came against Waterford in the 2021 All-Ireland SHC quarterfinals, with a knee injury keeping the Killenaule clubman side-lined throughout all last season.

A statement from O'Dwyer on Tipperary GAA's website said “I would like to thank all the management teams from Minor level up to Senior who helped me over the last 15 years.

"It was a great pleasure to represent my county and win some silverware along the way. Thanks to those close to me and to my club Killenaule, who without their support it wouldn’t have been possible, So long”.

Tipperary's next game in the Allianz Hurling League will be against Dublin on February 25.
