World University Games: Irish duo reach finals

IRELAND continue to be well represented at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, with Thomas Barr and John Travers the latest to make their mark.

Limerick swimmer Fiona Doyle took bronze in the 100m breaststroke on Monday, and now Thomas Barr of Waterford will line up in Friday’s 400m hurdles final after winning his semi-final heat.

Barr set a time of 49.75 and will look for a spot on the podium, with the final scheduled for mid-day on Friday (GMT).

Meanwhile, Dubliner John Travers is also making his mark at the event having qualified for the final of the 1,500m event with a time of 3:44.28, set in Wednesday’s first round.

The 1,500m final is due to start at 12.15pm on Friday (GMT).
