Pat Shortt and Daniel Radcliffe take McDonagh's Cripple of Inishmaan to Broadway

PAT Shortt is to appear on Broadway alongside Daniel Radcliffe and a stellar Irish cast as The Cripple of Inishmaan transfers from London to New York this spring.

Harry Potter star Radcliffe will lead the critically-acclaimed ensemble as the production moves to Times Square, New York, after a sold-out run in London’s West End last summer.

Set on the remote island of Inishmaan off the west coast of Ireland, word arrives that a Hollywood film is being made on the neighbouring island of Inishmore.

The one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy (Daniel Radcliffe), if only to break away from the boredom of his daily life.

The cast includes Ingrid Craigie (Citadel), Pádraic Delaney (The Tudors), Sarah Greene (Raw), Gillian Hanna (Casualty), Gary Lilburn (Mrs Brown’s Boys), Conor MacNeill (The Old Curiosity Shop) and June Watson (New Tricks).

Shortt (Life’s a Breeze, Father Ted) will re-enact the role of Johnnypateenmike.

Martin McDonagh - the son of Irish parents - examines the journey of self-discovery for young Billy in his comedy and the multi-award winning playwright reaffirms his position as a talented writer.

The Cripple of Inishmaan will be produced and directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Grandage and will open on Broadway on Sunday 20 April.

The production was part of an award-winning season of five plays for Michael Grandage Company at West End’s Noel Coward Theatre last year.

The Cripple of Inishmaan will open at the Cort Theatre on Broadway, New York, on April 20.
