One of Britain's most wanted fugitives Shane O’Brien may be hiding in Netherlands

A 27-year-old man wanted by police in connection with a London murder case is now one of Britain's most wanted fugitives and could be hiding in the Netherlands.

Shane O'Brien of Ladbroke Grove is being sought by detectives in relation to the murder of Josh Hanson at a bar in London last October.

A £10,000 reward also remains in place for information leading to O'Brien's arrest and prosecution.

O'Brien, who is believed to have links to the Ruislip area, has been added to the most wanted list by Crimestoppers and the National Crime Agency (NCA) under Operation Return.

The campaign is supported by the Dutch authorities and aims to track down people believed to be hiding in the Netherlands.

Detective Chief Inspector Noel McHugh, from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "We believe O'Brien could be in the Netherlands, although our enquiries continue in several other European countries at this stage.

"There is a European Arrest Warrant out for O'Brien and we hope the launch of this new Crimestoppers and NCA appeal will raise awareness and lead to his prompt arrest."

Mr Hanson, 21, of Kingsbury, north-west London, was stabbed in the neck at the RE bar in front around 40 customers in Eastcote, Hillingdon, at around 1am on Sunday, October 11.

Emergency services attended to Mr Hanson, a roads planner, following the incident but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem at Uxbridge mortuary on October 13 gave cause of death as haemorrhage, inhalation of blood and an incised wound to the neck.

Shane O'Brien is described as white, 6ft, with grey eyes and short dark brown hair.

He has a tattoo on his back saying 'Shannon 15-04-06' and may use the name Troy O'Brien.

Detectives have warned that he should not be approached by members of the public and that any sightings of him should be reported to police immediately on 999.

Two men have so far been arrested as part of the investigation.

On October 28, a 24-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, who were on an inbound flight to Britain, were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender.

Both were taken to a London police station and bailed pending further enquiries.

The men are due to return to the police station later this month.

Anyone with information about the murder or Shane O'Brien's whereabouts is urged to call the incident room on 020 8785 8099 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.
