Drugs boat, diamond dice and a signed George Best picture among top items at Government auction in Northern Ireland

A DRUGS haul boat, diamond dice and a signed picture of footballer George Best are set to go on sale at a Government auction in Belfast this week.

The Unreserved Government Prestige and Property Auction begins on Wednesday, November 30, at the Belfast branch of Wilsons Auctions in Mallusk.

Billed as one of the most desirable auctions of the year, a number of luxury and high profile items which have been seized by Government, or are proceeds of crime -related assets, or liquidation stock are set to go under the hammer.

One of the most high profile items this year is the MV Hamal, a commercial tug boat which was at the centre of the largest drug haul in British waters with an estimated £512million worth of cocaine seized on board earlier this year.

But the MV Hamal is only one of over 100 items at no reserve price at the auction.

Also featured are £350,000 worth of jewellery, including diamond rings, pendents, bracelets, earrings and over a dozen Rolex watches, including the Rolex Tridor with an 18ct yellow gold case, and an 18ct yellow, rose, white gold bracelet worth £40,000.

A signed George Best photograph and several sports memorabilia signed by Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Liverpool FC and Tiger Woods are also featured as part of the auction, as well as Audi and BMW cars, a signed Nelson Mandela autobiography, 63 small black diamond dice and a selection of motorbikes.

Wilsons Auctions’ Group Asset Recovery Manager, Aidan Larkin said: “We are very excited to be hosting our next Unreserved Government Prestige & Property Auction in our Belfast branch.

"With a host of luxury items [..] there really is an opportunity to purchase some high quality goods for an affordable price, just in time for Christmas.

"The role we play in realising these important assets is vital to our clients and the process in being able to raise the money which ultimately goes straight back into the public purse."

"To date we have been responsible for returning in excess of £80million to Government coiffures.” Mr Larkin added.

To register your interest in the auction, you must do so before midday tomorrow, November 29, here and bids can be made online through their website.
