THE estate of one of the tragic Kelly twins will be left to charity it has been revealed, as discussions continue over where their funeral will take place.
Their family is now deciding whether their funeral will be held in their native Cork or in North London, where they lived from the age of 18.
Details from John Kelly’s will have now revealed his wish for his estate to be left to charitable causes.
It also stated that he wished to be cremated.
“We had a team of experts enter John Kelly’s home [in Archway, North London] and sort through his stuff,” said Padraic Grennan, business development manager with Finders Ireland, the genealogy organisation involved in finding the Kelly brothers' next-of-kin.
“They found a will and it said that all his belongings were to be left to charity.”
The home of Bill, who lived in sheltered accommodation in Muswell Hill, has yet to be searched as The Irish Post was going to press.
Bill Kelly died on January 29 at Whittington Hospital, near his home of Muswell Hill.
His friends from his local church, Our Lady of Muswell, began searching for next-of-kin and discovered that he had a twin brother, John, living in nearby Archway.
But when Donegal native Margaret Deeney went to tell John Kelly that his twin had passed away, it was discovered that he too had died in recent weeks.
An appeal led by The Irish Post found the Kelly twins’ family in their native Cork – with eight first cousins in total coming forward after the story made national headlines.
As it stands, the brothers remain in separate morgues in London – Bill’s body lies in Whittington Hospital mortuary; while John’s remains are in a morgue in Hornsey.
