Garda investigation as bag of human limbs found in Dublin estate

GARDAÍ HAVE launched an investigation following the gruesome discovery of a bag of human limbs in a Dublin estate late last night.

The dismembered body parts, reported to be "a number" of human limbs, was discovered by a group of teenagers in Moatview Gardens, Coolock, Dublin at approximately 10pm last night, 13 January 2020.

There was no head or torso present with the remains.

According to The Irish Independent, when alerted to the discovery of the remains Gardaí initially believed it was a diversion tactic to distract them from the pursuit of a vehicle linked to a robbery, which was taking place nearby.

However it quickly became apparent that the situation was serious, and the road was cordoned off to await the arrival of forensic experts and the state pathologist, with investigators due to carry out tests on the remains this morning, 14 January.

Garda investigators are reportedly searching through the missing persons database as part of the attempt to identify the remains.

Investigations are also underway to establish how the dismembered body parts came to be in the estate, with Gardaí said to be verifying reports that they had been dumped by a passing vehicle which fled the scene.

Speaking to The Irish Independent, a local woman who asked to remain anonymous, said:

"I'm honestly not surprised in the slightest that something like this has happened here.

"Last year, a man from here was shot to death as children were walking home from school.

"The gangs here have no fear and wouldn't hesitate to kill anyone who spoke out against them".

Investigations continue.
